Surbana school for children and Sustainability of the Youth!

Our Mission

Changing the world by Empowering the Eritrean children

1. School opportunities!

Our Vision

A world where every child is safe, educated and loved

Academics!

Our academic program is rooted in Eritrea’s national curriculum and complemented with international best practices, ensuring students have a strong understanding of core subjects, while offering a localized curriculum to provide environmental, outdoor, and global education learning opportunities. Our curricular initiatives emphasize experiential learning, interdisciplinary approaches, environmental action, and community service.

We engage students in meaningful learning activities that instill an appreciation and sense of responsibility for our surrounding environment, community, and region, while developing social, academic, leadership, and stewardship skills. Our program also prepares students for the future by teaching life and career skills. Our pedagogical approach is best defined as place-based active learning; we believe that the key to

successful learning is being a fully engaged and active partner in discovery, learning globally while staying rooted in the local context. Across the curriculum, we utilize place-based pedagogy to curate an understanding and respect for nature and our community, and to connect our students to the local geography, environment, history, and cultural context.

Community Outreach

We welcome any Foundations who can assist or provide schooling and a home for vulnerable children in the ongoing project in Egypt and near future in Eritrea. Without education, children get caught in the inter-generational cycles of poverty. We are determined to help break this cycle. But simply sending children to school is not enough. It is crucial to empower families and communities for mental and physical development of children. Surbana has been providing family and community support since its inception.

As a part of our community outreach, we provide various community services to reduce poverty, empower women, improve health, and encourage sustainability and social justice. We also intend to partner with other governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Our organization has provided essential assistance for the community, especially during times of emergency. We have supported the community during the emergency needs, sewing machines, school supplies as well as the migrant crisis during the pandemic of 2020-21. We have provided relief materials, food and shelter to hundreds of families.

In this way, Surbana has been a source of basic needs like food, shelter, health, and education to many children and families in Egypt and previously in Libya and Ethiopia. We are working hard every day to build a strong community, where every child is safe, educated and loved.

ADMISSIONS

Surbana School has a policy of fair and transparent consideration for admission. We welcome applications regardless of religion, ethnic origin, or gender, for whom we are able to confirm stable living conditions in each school and country. Our school is a day school, and we do not have residential facilities. We plan admit about 30 new 4–5-year-old students each year into our early years program. We specifically select vulnerable, at-risk children in each school area. We provide free education from preschool up to grade twelve. Each student receives free uniforms, textbooks, supplies, school lunch and snacks, counseling, health care services, and career guidance. We also offer training and awareness programs for guardians to strengthen our family units.

Sustainability

At Surbana School, sustainability isn’t just something we talk about now and again, it’s at the heart of everything we do. We understand how critical it is that all of us learn how to live in a way that cares for our community and the environment we all share. Our young people are leading the way and providing a model for how institutions and organizations can use smart thinking and cutting-edge design to build a healthier, more sustainable future.

EDUCATION

At Surbana, we weave environmental education into the classroom in all grades and subject areas. Our environmental education program emphasizes the necessity of ensuring that young people become environmentally active and responsible citizens. A key characteristic of the environmental education program is an emphasis on outdoor learning. Taking our students out of the classroom not only offers a unique context for learning but also provides experiential learning opportunities that foster connections

to local places and helps students develop a greater understanding of ecosystems.

Surbana School is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment where students thrive academically and personally. Our campus is equipped with the latest technology, including an AirLink weather station from Davis Instruments that measures various environmental factors, including air pollution. This real-time data is actively used by our students to create charts and analyze pollution trends, identifying peak pollution times. This hands-on experience with pollution data and its indices provides a tangible understanding of air quality issues and inspires the next generation to become stewards of the environment. We prioritize holistic education, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and social responsibility. Our passionate educators are committed to guiding students on their educational journey, preparing them for a successful future.

What Else?

Sustainability of the Eritrean Youth!

“Strategies to Ensure Continuous Support and Expand Community Impact”

Surbana organization project to the Youth stands as an inspiring model in the field of youth empowerment, equipping young people with the skills and knowledge necessary to foster self-reliance and build a brighter future. Despite facing significant challenges, the organization’s efforts serve as a fundamental pillar in improving the conditions of youth and opening new horizons for them in the realms of education, as well as vocational and technical training.

However, one of the most prominent challenges confronting the Organization is the scarcity of financial resources and technical support—factors that could potentially jeopardize the continuity of its programs and limit their scope of expansion. Consequently, it becomes imperative to adopt effective and innovative strategies to ensure sustainability and achieve a broader impact within the community.

1. Strategies to Ensure Continuous Support for the Youth.

The Concept: To form a support group comprising individuals and institutions that believe in the organization's mission and commit to providing fixed monthly contributions.

How It Helps: This model provides a stable source of income that helps cover operational costs—such as office rent and the execution of core activities—thereby granting the organization greater stability in its planning and implementation processes.

2. Building Partnerships with Business Leaders and Institutions

The Concept: To reach out to business leaders and supportive entities—both locally and

internationally—to encourage them to adopt or sponsor the organization's programs.

How It Helps: These partnerships pave the way for securing continuous financial and technical support, while also contributing to enhancing the quality of the training programs offered to the youth.

3. Launching Fundraising Campaigns

The Concept: To organize periodic fundraising campaigns—whether online or within the local community—while highlighting the specific needs of the youth.

How It Helps: These campaigns contribute to raising community awareness regarding the plight of refugee youth and continuously attracting new supporters.

4. Supporting Training Programs with Tools and Equipment

The Concept: Focusing on providing direct in-kind support that serves the training programs offered by the organization.

Examples of Required Support:

Wood and metal work training

Sewing machines to train youth in handicrafts.

Computers to teach digital skills and artificial intelligence.Online classes based on their skills and higher education opportunities.

Musical instruments and equipment (such as keyboards, guitars, and drums) to implement music education programs.

How It Helps: This type of support contributes directly to developing the skills of young people, opening up new avenues for them—such as self-employment, artistic creativity, and preparation for the job market.

5. Organizing Community and Training Events

The Concept: Hosting workshops, training courses, and introductory events to showcase the organization's activities.

How It Helps: These events enhance the organization's presence within the community and open the door to new volunteers and supporters, in addition to creating tangible training opportunities for youth.

6. Building Partnerships with International and Regional Organizations

The Concept: Collaborating with organizations active in the fields of education, development, and youth empowerment.

How It Helps: Such collaboration can provide long-term support—whether financial, training-related, or logistical—thereby enhancing the sustainability of programs and amplifying their impact.

The Importance of Showcasing the organization's Impact on Society

It is crucial to highlight the successes achieved by the Organization—such as the stories of young people who have successfully acquired new skills in fields like sewing, technology, and music, and how this has contributed to improving their lives. Showcasing these real-life examples reinforces donor confidence and encourages more organizations and individuals to contribute.

Surbana organization

More than just a youth initiative, this is a genuine platform of hope dedicated to empowering an entire generation of the young people, helping them build a future founded on knowledge, hard work, and self-reliance.

Supporting this project is an investment in the energy and potential of youth, and in the construction of a stronger and more stable society.

We call upon relevant authorities, institutions, business leaders, and all those concerned with youth issues to support this initiative by:

Providing training equipment

Supporting educational, technical, and artistic programs (such as music)

Contributing to the sustainability of the organization’s activities

Let us all be part of this change, and let us contribute to shaping a better future.
